NY trip revisited
Cody Hopper and I headed out from the magnolia greyhoud station knowing 20 hours later we were going to be in the big apple. What we didn't know was 10 of those hours would be spent idling at other trashy bus stations along the east coast. The bus would stop atleast every 45 minutes so people could get out in inhale as many cigs as they could before the bus took off agian. The starting and stopping made it damn difficult to catch any shut eye. But they say NYC never sleeps so we needed the practice. We mostly passed the time by rooting our teeth out with sour pach kids and reading the Malto issue of slap and talking shit. Finnaly we see the skyline of NYC and we forget about those last 20 hours of hell. As we exit the bus station we realize we have no fuckin clue what we are supposed to do or where to go. We didn't really go into the trip with a game plan. All I know is we are right next to madison square garden cause I see this huge banner with a gorilla on it that resembles Patrick Ewing. We decide to start walking toward our hostel which we think we are right next to cause it's in new york and that's where we are right. Well not really we were like 50 blocks away. So we duck down into the subway and pay the 2 bucks to get on and take that to the hostel. After checking into the hostel we decide to go out and hit the streets figuring we will just bump into every spot in the static trilogy within 10 minutes we both realize we aren't really going to find shit thats skateable for two mediocre skateboardrs with not much pop. But we got lucky and saw a few other skaters that pointed us in the direction of some bangin ledges that where about the height of my dick when its limp. We sessioned those for a good minute then headed back to the hostel to catch some shut eye. We wake up the next morning and of course do what any skateboarder would do on there first day in NYC. Take the subway straight to the banks. Seeing the banks and skating them for the first time was definetly one of the top 5 moments of my life. But as everyone says they are definetly steeper in person then they look when huf is busting waist high kickflips on them. After losing gallons of sweat and falling in a bunch of bum piss at the banks we headed to get a drink and seek out more spots. We ended up finding the jersey barrier spot David Clark front boards on for a quicksilver ad. We attempted skating it for a good hour and with not much success. Our respect for NY skateboarding was growing by the spot. From there we decided to skate all the way through manhaton up to tompkins square park. Once again we found that maps can be decieving and what looks like just a quick skate up the road can turn into a three hour marathon skate. We finnaly made it to tompkins square park and found that the park with the krooked eyes wall was right down the street. That place is like a public skatepark they have to put up everyday. We skated the ramps for a while before they had to put them up for the night. The skateshop down the road has to bring them out every morning and put them up. Pretty sick the city lets them use the place and that rojo bull donated all the ramps while we decided to we mine as well just skate home since we wanted to see the city more of the city anyhow. Well an hour later and almost halfway home we were finding out again that NY was pretty damn big. When we finnaly made it home we passed out immediatly. We woke up the next day and hopped on the subway and headed straght to the banks to meet up for the wild in the streets event. When we got there over 200 skateboarders where there. By the time the emerica team got there an hour later there were over 4oo skateboarders and it was complete mayham. Reynolds was pretty much getting penetrated by kids. They were like celebrity status. Hype man and 5boro owner steve Rodriguez tried to get a session started on the rail but noone was really feeling it except some locals trying to make name for themsleves and Ben Gilley who 50-50ed it. After that they threw out the direction to all the spots we were hitting. The first spot was the brooklyn skatpark. All 400 skateboarders took to the streets of new york and the takeover was on. Traffic ewas just completly stopped at interssetions. People were graping car and skitching and I can't count the amount of time i skated into the back of someones foot just cause we were skateing so close. The skatepark was almost toe to toe with people except for a little hole around the pyramid where reynolds had just enough to frontside flip the bitch to flat and end the session. We took back to the streets and skated/skitched to tompkins square park. Skating down the streets of new york with a possey of 400 is something i will never forger. When we made it to tompkins square park things went from great to shit fast. I noticed my wallett was missing after skating around there for a while. In that wallett was all the money cody and I had to our name in NY plus my debt card. So we decide to cruise on down to the police station I figured they would have a phone I could use to call and cancel my debt card. When I go in there they say they don't have a phone that can call outside the state and I should just use a payphone. So finnaly i get through to my dad and get him to cancel my card. But we still have no money. We just decide to worry about that later and just head across the brooklyn bridge to meet back up with the wild in the streets crew. The skate was pretty long but it was real fun hitting the downhill part of the brooklyn bridge. When we get to KCDC skateshop they have the whole block the shop is on shut down because there are so many skateboarders. Complete madness everywhere. It was almost 500 skateboarders just posting up on the block. Cody and I decided to just cruise around real quick and get away from the scene. We got about a block away from the event and we randomly see Dustin Dollin walking down the street. It was pretty sureal for us since we only see pro skaters about once a year in TN. After that we ended up just bitching to each other about how hot it was and how thirsty we were. but there is nothing we could really do about it. So Cody manned up and went into a convienence store and stole some drinks like a pro. We still had no idea how we were going to get the fuck back to the hostel with no money from the subway. Much less get any food in the next 48 hours.. We figured it wouldnt be that hard to just hop the subway withouy paying. And it wasn't we both made it through no problem first try no warmup.. When we got to the hostel we slept knowing tommorow would be a long day. We had to check out of the hotel the first thing in the morning so we where on the streets in NY with all our clothes and shit until the bus left that night at 7. We once again hopped over the bar at the subway station and headed to the banks to try and actually get one or two clips. We managed to get a few things before the rain came and and shut us down. After the rain stopped we started walking around the city with our heavy ass duffel bag. We managed to find a few spots but were pretty fuckin over it so we just looked at them like we were skate spot tourists and remaniced about all the tricks we had seen bobby puleo do on them. Then we killed some more time by riding the fairy over to statton island for no reason other then getting more tourist pics with the statue of liberty. Then we walked all the way up to the bust station with the heavy ass duffel bag and waited 3 long ass hours for our bus to get there so we could sit on it for 20 hours without having eatin in the past 24 hours. But we did make it back to knoxville and went straght to gattis and raped there buffet. hecka tight trip. the end.
